The issue of beauty standards is a political issue because the government allows people to use toxic chemicals to “beautify” themselves.
This issue is also a social problem because people we allow people to control what we wear. Also we allow certain types of people with certain attributes to influence what we wear, what we do,how we wear our hair, the way we dress and etc.
This issue is a cultural issue because different cultures have different views of beauty , yet we are all trying to fit
This issue is a economic issue because people spend their money on products to give off a certain type of image.
The problem surrounding the issue is we see images on television and billboards and we try to imitate it but even the actual people in the ads don’t look like that. Nobody’s perfect. The products are no only harmful to the people but to the environment as well.
The issue of toxins in beauty products, and how organic products are more expensive and not equally distributed in low-income communities, is an economic issue. Organic products and stores that offer safer products are more often not located in low-income communities because of the unequal distribution of resources. Also, because these products are more expensive people in low-income neighborhoods are not expected to be able to buy and afford these products. So instead of trying to put stores like Whole Foods in lower income communities they just continue to build stores like Wal-Mart and K-mart, which do not offer many healthier and safer beauty and hygienic products. The inequalities of the distribution of these kinds of stores are what make the issue an economic issue. Although stores have also currently been including a line of healthier products there still is not an equal distribution of these products. Apart from being an economic issue it is also a cultural issue because in our country women and men worry too much about looks and that is what makes them want to use these products that are potentially harmful like changing their hair color with all dyes that also have many toxins in them. In an article I read by Maysan Haydar who is a Muslim girl, she described how she does not bother much with her looks like other girls she grew up with in America. She describes how she would use a hair cover cloth to respect her culture and not because she had too, like most people think, it was because she wanted to and she felt that by wearing it men respected her more and she did not have to deal with bad harassment. Current solutions being taken would be just trying to get people informed about the harms that these products can produce/increase the risk of in people who use the products constantly and after long periods of time. The spreading knowledge that people are getting about these products has probably had an influence on why more stores do offer better more safer beauty and hygiene products but also there needs to be more done in order for people to really understand the effects that these products can have on us which are really unnecessary when people need to take care of themselves in other ways.
